Hairitage Reviews: What to Know About This Walmart Brand

There aren’t a ton of Hairitage reviews online, so I’m excited to add mine to the mix! In these Hairitage reviews, I’ll be covering a decent amount of products from the line. For reference, I have thin hair strands, but I have a lot of hair. So it kinda looks like I have thick hair. My hair is long and color-treated, and I try not to use heat on my strands too often.

I learned about the brand when a publicist invited me (and many other beauty editors) to get a blowout using the brand’s haircare products. We got to meet the founder and I walked away with gorgeous-looking locks. I wanted to try more of the products and write Hairitage reviews so that you can decide whether you want to spend money on this brand.

Hairitage Reviews

Hairitage by Mindy was founded in February 2020 and was created by YouTube sensation, Mindy McNight. McNight’s YouTube channel, called Cute Girls Hairstyles, currently has 5.66 million subscribers. When she first started her channel, McKnight was creating—you guessed it—cute girls hairstyles on her daughters and filming the process. She would create really intricate braids, buns, and more, and help viewers create the same look.

The only reason I remember McKnight’s YouTube channel is because my younger cousin, Hope, used to be obsessed with Cute Girls Hairstyles, and would want to recreate looks from the channel on my own hair. Fast forward about 10 years later, and McKnight’s hair empire is still going strong.

Below, I write multiple Hairitage reviews on the different products I’ve tested from the line. Some of them I love, and others I don’t.

The Best Hairitage Products

Hairitage Outta My Hair Gentle Daily Shampoo

Available at Walmart ($9)

Just as the name suggests, this is a great, everyday shampoo that is gentle on the hair and scalp. I love this formula and find that my scalp tolerates it really well. It lathers nicely and rinses out easily, too.

I love that it’s free of gluten, parabens, mineral oils, phthalates, and sulfates, and it’s safe for color-treated hair as well. Suited for all hair types, this formula is ideal for the whole family, and I definitely recommend this pick.

hairitage reviews conditioner

Hairitage S.O.S. Deep Moisture + Restore Conditioner

Available at Walmart ($11)

This is a rich conditioner that I’ve been using a lot recently. This pick is ideal for those with thick, coily, or curly hair, but I like to use it on my wavy hair. I don’t find that it weighs down my hair at all. But I think if you have really thin, fine hair, you might not love this formula. It adds the perfect amount of hydration to my hair, and I like to use it as my regular conditioner.

hairitage reviews leave-in conditioner

Hairitage Light as a Feather Leave-in Conditioner

Available at Walmart ($9)

I was actually really surprised by this leave-in conditioner. The leave-in conditioners that I typically use on my hair have a milky, white formula. This pick is a clear formula. For whatever reason, I thought that the clear formula wouldn’t hydrate my hair enough. But I was totally wrong.

I actually love this formula. I especially like to use it to define the natural waves in my hair. It really is light as a feather, and I don’t feel like it weighs down my hair in the slightest. This one is a big winner in my book and I’ll probably re-up whenever I run out.

Hairitage Held High Volume Conditioner

Hairitage Held High Volume Conditioner

Available at Walmart ($9)

I honestly didn’t notice a huge difference in terms of the texture and the results between the Held High Volume Conditioner and the S.O.S. Deep Moisture + Restore Conditioner. Maybe the S.O.S. Deep Moisture + Restore Conditioner is a little bit thicker, but not by much.

I think this conditioner does a great job of hydrating my hair without weighing it down. It detangles well. It’s hard to say if it adds volume to my hair, but I definitely notice that it doesn’t weigh down my hair or scalp and make me look greasy, so that is definitely a plus.

Hairitage Lazy Day Dry Shampoo

Hairitage Lazy Day Dry Shampoo

Available at Walmart ($9)

Okay, not to be dramatic, but I think this might be the best dry shampoo that I’ve ever used (and I’ve used a lot). I dunno what the hell is in this formula to make it work so well, but it soaks up all the oils close to my scalp really well.

Each time I’ve used this, my hair looks significantly less greasy for the whole day. I also noticed that it doesn’t leave a white cast in my dark hair, which is an issue I face with a lot of other dry shampoos. I’m really impressed with this one and definitely recommend it!

Hairitage Mask-querade Transforming Hair Mask

Hairitage Mask-querade Transforming Hair Mask

Available at Walmart ($10)

I wouldn’t say that my hair was completely transformed after using this hair mask. But it was enough for me to like it and continue to use it again. The consistency is interesting—it feels like raw coconut oil. The mask is pretty dang thick, so if you have really thin hair, you might not love this.

I think for the price, this is a decent hair mask. But it’s certainly not the best one I’ve ever tried!

Hairitage Curl Crème

Hairitage Ahead of the Curl! Curl Crème

Available at Walmart ($9)

Honestly, I’m probably not the target audience for this curl creme. But I wanted to try it out just in case it did something for my hair. I have straight-ish hair, but sometimes if I put a curl product in my hair, it’ll bring out some waves. This formula did no such thing.

I do think it’s a lovely texture and it probably works well for those with actual curls. But it basically didn’t do anything for my waves.

Hairitage Reviews heat protectant spray

Hairitage Play it Cool Heat Protectant Spray

Available at Walmart ($8)

Sometimes I feel like it’s hard to tell if a heat protectant spray is actually doing anything for your hair. I wasn’t impressed with this spray, and didn’t notice a difference in my hair after using it. If anything, it made my hair feel a bit more dry than usual.

I do appreciate that it doesn’t contain any silicones, which I think a lot of heat protectants do. But at the same time, I don’t know if this formula actually protected my hair from heat damage. This is the best heat protectant for natural hair that we’ve found, in case you are curious!

Hairitage Magic Spell Texturizing Spray

Hairitage Magic Spell Texturizing Spray

Available at Walmart ($9)

Truth be told, I’m still trying to figure out what, exactly, a texturizing spray does. I added this to my roots and my hair in place of a dry shampoo for a few days. I think it added a nice amount of body, and a little bit of “grit” to my hair.

The description says that you can use it as a prep spray to provide grip for no-slip braids and updos. And I think it would do a good job of that, for sure. I didn’t find myself using this formula as much, but others might find it useful!

Is Hairitage Good For Your Hair?

This is kinda a tricky question. Hairitage products aren’t necessarily “natural,” but they do have a decent amount of naturally-derived ingredients in their formulas. I love that the products in the brand don’t contain gluten, mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates.

And I do think the brand is pretty safe to use on your hair and scalp. If you look up the brand on EWG’s Skin Deep website, you will see that the products range from a rating of two to six. So it’s a wide range!

All in all, yes, I think most Hairitiage products are good for your hair, and you cannot beat the affordable price.

FAQs About Hairitage Hair Products

Is Hairitage good for curly hair?

Yes, I think this brand is great for curly hair. When I spoke to McNight at an event years ago, she told me that part of the reason that she started Hairitage was because she has a few kids who have curly/textured hair, and she wanted to create a line that caters to their hair texture as well. Because of this, I do think Hairitage is a great line for those with curly hair!

Does Hairitage cause hair loss?

I’ve seen a few TikToks about Hairitage causing hair loss, but I haven’t noticed any type of hair loss after using their products. One thing to consider is that you should be washing your hair more often than you should be using dry shampoo. Unfortunately, most dry shampoos are just not great for the health of your scalp. And if you rely on dry shampoo too much to keep your hair clean, you’re probably going to experience some sort of hair loss.

Here is a blog post for how to fix hair breakage in case you are dealing with that as well!

Is Hairitage color safe?

Yes, they have a color-safe line that you can use if you have color-treated hair.

Is Hairitage cruelty-free?

Yes, Hairitage is cruelty-free and vegan.

Is Hairitage sulfate free?

Yes, I believe that most of their products are sulfate-free.

Does Hairitage have DMDM?

No, Hairitage products do not contain DMDM.
