Skinfix Reviews: Why This Is Such An Underrated Skincare Brand
I’m thrilled to write these Skinfix reviews because I’m basically obsessed with every product. This brand flew under my radar for a while. But ever since I discovered the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream years ago, I’ve been hooked.
If you don’t believe that skincare can completely change your skin for the better, I’m here to prove you wrong. Below, I cover everything from how I learned about Skinfix, why I think this brand is worth the investment, and which products I’d say you can skip out on.
Skinfix Reviews: Here’s Why This Brand Is Worth The Hype
I test so many different skincare products every year for my job as a freelance beauty writer. Before a few years ago, there weren’t a ton of skincare brands that catered specifically to those with sensitive skin. Skinfix entered the scene in 2014. And since then, this brand has made a name for itself within the sensitive-skin girlies community.
I’ve been using Skinfix products on and off since I first discovered the brand in around 2017. I’ve written about my obsession with the Skinfix Triple Lipid Peptide Cream before. And there are so many other great Skinfix products I’ve discovered since then. Read on for my super thorough Skinfix reviews below!
What Is Skinfix?
Skinfix was founded by Amy Gordinier in 2014. Gordinier met the great, great-granddaughter of Thomas Dixon, who was a pharmacist in Yorkshire, England, and the creator of the heritage Skinfix healing balm. Gordinier was shocked by how many testimonials there had been about the healing properties of the Skinfix healing balm. So she decided to create a line based on that.
Skinfix is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s a clean skincare brand that uses science and a ton of clinical research to create products suitable for sensitive skin. According to their site, the brand formulates their products “with key combinations of clinically active pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical ingredients using their clinically validated active levels. [They] test all formulations for safety and have them vetted and approved by an independent panel of dermatologists. Then [they] test many of [their] formulas with top dermatologists using strict medical and clinical protocols.”
Skinfix is well-known for creating products that cater to, what I like to call, high-maintenance skin. Whether you have super-sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, a destroyed skin barrier, eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis, this brand has a product for you that will work.
Below, I cover all of the Skinfix products that I’ve tried over the last sevenish years. There are some products I truly cannot live without. And then there are others that I don’t necessarily think are worth the high price tag.
What Are The Best Skinfix Products?
Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream
Available at Skinfix ($54)
Like I mentioned before, this is the creme de la creme. The GOAT. The moisturizer to rival them all. Of all the moisturizers I’ve ever tested in my 10+ years in magazines, this one wins. It’s creamy, rich, hydrating, non-irritating, and leaves a glow like no other.
When I input the ingredients into the Sofie Pavitt Ingredients Checker, it says that it contains shea butter, which is a “pore-clogging ingredient,” according to the research. Personally, I’ve noticed that my skin loves shea butter. I’ve never had any issues with this formula clogging my pores or breaking me out. Which is honestly surprising because it is a pretty heavy cream.
I just love everything about this product. I’ve purchased it about a million times (and I also request it from the brand as often as they’ll let me!). It soothes my skin in a way that other facial creams could never. And I can literally feel it building my skin barrier back up after every use. This cream also sits beautifully (and I mean beautifully) under makeup. It creates a lit-from-within glow.
One of the things I really love about this formula is that it’s extremely hydrating, but doesn’t rely on hyaluronic acid to add hydration to your skin. I could be wrong, but I don’t think my skin loves hyaluronic acid. My skin almost feels drier after I use products that use hyaluronic acid as their main hydrating ingredient. Although this formula has a small amount of sodium hyaluronate in the formula (which is a derivative of hyaluronic acid), it doesn’t rely on the popular ingredient to add hydration. Instead, you’ll find a plethora of lipids, vitamins, peptides, and glycerin in this formula to add intense hydration to your skin barrier.
Another thing I absolutely love about all Skinfix products is that they are fragrance-free. My sensitive skin doesn’t love fragrances (I talked about this a bit in my Image Skincare Reviews). I appreciate that I don’t have to worry about that at all when it comes to Skinfix products.
This cream is $54 and is worth every single penny. My younger brother has pretty sensitive skin and was using a different, popular skincare brand that had a lot of actives in it. He was using that moisturizer for a long time, and honestly, his skin wasn’t looking great.
He asked me to overhaul his skincare routine this past year. I swapped out the other moisturizer and added the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream to his daily routine. When we were together over the summer, he told me, and I quote, that “this shit completely changed my skin. It’s amazing.” So, take it from Austin…it’s worth the hype and I hope it stays in stock for eternity.
One final thing I should note about this cream (can you tell I’m obsessed with it or what lol) is that it’s not good for those with oily skin. Because this is such a hydrating face cream, folks with already oily, greasy, or shiny skin will not like this pick. If you have oily skin, you might want to opt for the Skinfix Barrier+ Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream. For those with normal, combination, dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin, I think…no, I know…you will love this.
Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Eye Treatment
Available at Skinfix ($54)
I never knew I’d be obsessed with an eye cream. But now I’m in my 30s, and a great eye cream is a must. I know I just went on and on about how the Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream is the best facial moisturizer I’ve ever tried. But, it turns out that the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Eye Treatment is the best eye cream that I’ve ever tried, too. Yes, this brand has multiple “best of” winners in my book.
This eye cream is everything. It’s super creamy, moisturizing, and a little goes a long way. My eye area soaks this shit up every night, and it adds the most beautiful glow to my eye area. The formula contains the brand’s 4% patented* B-L3™ complex, 2% niacinamide, and 0.5% caffeine. I tend to use this eye cream more at night before I go to bed. So I haven’t really noticed the brightening or “awakening” effects that it claims to give, thanks to the caffeine.
A big difference I do notice is how much this softens the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes. Does it make them completely disappear? No, but it certainly moisturizes my eye area enough to plump up the skin and smooth out any wrinkles.
I also love that it doesn’t contain any irritating ingredients, yet manages to make my eyes look a bit younger. I’ve always felt like I had to sacrifice anti-aging benefits over moisturizing benefits when it comes to my eye cream. Especially because so many eye creams that contain traditional anti-aging ingredients are so irritating for my eye area. With this formula, I feel like I get the best of both worlds.
Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Activating Serum
Available at Skinfix ($69)
This is a really lovely anti-aging serum. I like that this formula doesn’t contain any harsh anti-aging ingredients (like retinol) that you’d typically find in an anti-aging serum. Featuring 9% patent-pending B-L3™ with barrier lipids and peptides, 3% polyglutamic acid complex, and 2% brightening niacinamide, this formula helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while adding a ton of hydration to the skin.
I noticed much smoother skin after using this serum until the last drop. The biggest issue I have with this one is the price. $69 is steep for any serum in my opinion! And you only get 1.0 fl oz. with this product.
I think that if you’re looking for an anti-aging serum that is gentle on your skin, this is a good option and you should splurge. But if you don’t feel like you need any anti-aging products just yet, I think you can probably skip this and just purchase the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream instead. Another option that is a bit similar (at least in consistency and finish) to the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Activating Serum (but is more than half the price) is the Rhode Skin Peptide Glazing Fluid.
Skinfix Eczema+ Hand Relief Cream
Available at Skinfix ($25)
This is a must-have for me in the winter months. I get some eczema in between my fingers when the weather changes. This cream does a great job of treating that eczema and preventing more from spreading. This is a pricey hand cream, but if you suffer from eczema on your hands, I definitely, definitely think this is worth the price!
Skinfix Eczema+ Dermatitis Relief Balm For Face + Body
Available at Skinfix ($45)
According to some of the reviews of this pick on the brand’s website, this product was reformulated. I don’t remember what the old version looked or felt like, so I can’t comment on that.
However, what I can say is that I think this is a great option for those who are suffering from dermatitis. I used this on the eczema between my fingers that usually pops up when the weather starts to get colder. It basically made the eczema disappear overnight, no joke.
I only tried this on a small area, so I can’t say how well it would do on a larger area of dermatitis. I think it’s a great, steroid-free alternative to hydrocortisone and is worth the money if you deal with dermatitis.
Skinfix Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume
Available at Skinfix ($69)
This is the brand’s latest launch. I’ve only used it a few times, but wow. I’m pretty damn impressed. I used this on my face after skiing in Utah and I got insane windburn, especially on my cheeks. My cheeks were super red, and I developed these little red bumps on my cheeks. They kinda looked like small pimples, but I think they were from the windburn. I used this formula at night for one night and the windburn on my cheeks was practically gone the next day. I wish I had taken pictures! It was insane.
This is a good product to use after any in-office procedure, where your skin is super irritated. I also liked using it after my ski trip. I’d be super interested to see if this does anything for sunburns in the summer.
The formula uses vegan growth factor peptides and exosomes really help your skin regenerate fast. This is a pretty thick cream, and I don’t think it’s meant to be used daily as a moisturizer or anything like that.
Skinfix Barrier+ Foaming Oil Cleanser
Available at Skinfix ($30)
I feel like the name of this pick is a bit misleading. This is not the oily consistency that you think of when using an “oil cleanser.” I would say that this is more of a foaming gel cleanser that almost feels hydrating after you use it.
The oils used in this formula are jojoba oil and squalene. I like that this does a fantastic job of removing makeup without feeling like it’s stripping your skin once you wash it off. At $30 per bottle, it’s definitely on the pricier side for a face wash. That being said, I think it’s my favorite of the cleansers I’ve tried from the brand, and believe it’s worth the extra dough if you have it.
If you’d prefer to spend your money on other Skinfix products, I’d probably recommend you buy the Vanicream Cleanser. The formula is definitely different (and feels different), but it’s a good option for sensitive skin, too.
Skinfix Barrier+ Ceramide + Ectoin Gentle Gel Cleanser
Available at Skinfix ($30)
Okay, so the consistency of the Barrier+ Ceramide + Ectoin Gentle Gel Cleanser and the Eczema+ Pre-Biotic Face + Body Foaming Oil Cleanser (below) feel pretty much the same to me. This formula is a wee bit thicker than the Eczema+ Pre-Biotic Face + Body Foaming Oil Cleanser, but not by much.
I think this cleanser does a great job of cleansing my skin without stripping it. I wouldn’t say it’s the strongest when it comes to removing eye makeup, but it still does a pretty decent job. It’s hard to find a facial cleanser that actually helps your skin barrier stay healthy and intact, and I love that this formula is designed just for that. It contains ceramides (my skin seems to love ceramides), as well as ectoin to protect your dermis.
Skinfix Eczema+ Pre-Biotic Face + Body Foaming Oil Cleanser
Available at Skinfix ($30)
I think the key difference between the Barrier+ Ceramide + Ectoin Gentle Gel Cleanser and the Eczema+ Pre-Biotic Face + Body Foaming Oil Cleanser is that the latter is meant for those who suffer with eczema-prone skin. In the winter months, my face and body tend to flare with eczema because of the cold.
I actually haven’t experienced any facial dermatitis or eczema this year (yet), and I’ve only gotten a small amount of eczema on my hand (which was dealt with thanks to the Eczema+ Dermatitis Relief Balm For Face + Body that I mentioned above). Because of this, I haven’t been able to test whether this foaming oil cleanser actually helps with eczema.
That being said, I can imagine that it’s pretty dang gentle on eczema-prone skin. I like that you can use this on your face and body where you experience eczema, and you don’t have to worry about using a cleanser that will completely destroy your skin barrier and make the whole eczema-prone area even worse.
Skinfix Acne+ 2% BHA Cleanser
Available at Skinfix ($35)
To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of using acne cleansers to fight breakouts. I think it’s smarter to use a gentle cleanser, and then use a targeted acne-fighting serum (like the Sofie Pavitt Face Mandelic Clearing Serum) every night. I used this cleanser to help fight breakouts on my back.
This pick contains 2% salicylic acid (BHA), 2% niacinamide, and 1% azelaic acid. Do I think this is a revolutionary acne cleanser that you need to have? No, I do not. I think there are other acne cleansers on the market that are less expensive and work just as effectively (especially if you are using it on your body, like I did). This pick might be good for those who want a more gentle acne cleanser for their face, but I didn’t try this on my face, so I’m honestly not sure how gentle it is for facial skin. I know I didn’t have any issues with it drying out my back when I used it.
Is Skinfix Worth It?
Skinfix is absolutely, without a doubt, worth the money. It is one of my favorite skincare brands on the market (if not my favorite) and it’s honestly perfect for my super sensitive, acne-prone skin. And I hope that these Skinfix reviews have proven it.
The products from this line definitely come at a higher price point than your typical drugstore products. But I don’t think the price is way beyond the worth of these formulas, either. When you try the products from this brand, I think you will understand why you’re spending $54 on a face cream.
One thing I will note is that, if you have pretty normal/perfect skin, I don’t know if you need to invest in most products from this brand. If you have a normal skin type, you’ll most likely love the Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream, but you obviously don’t need to invest in, say, the Eczema+ Dermatitis Relief Balm For Face + Body if you don’t deal with dermatitis.
I think those who suffer from sensitive skin benefit immensely from every Skinfix product. I also think this is a great brand for those who have dry skin and also suffer with acne, too (like myself).
My skin just loves everything about this brand, and I will be using it for years and years to come. I’m super excited to see all the innovations that they come up with in the future. I especially would love for them to use mandelic acid in some of their acne products. I fell in love with mandelic acid over the last year or so and think it would be a great addition for their consumer.
