A Thorough Kate McLeod Body Stone Review

My Kate McLeod Body Stone Review is an unexpected one. What started with hate quickly turned into love. But before I dive into my review, I must share with you my stance on body moisturizers, as I think this is an important one.

Now, let’s just start off with the facts. There are two types of people in this world: body lotion fans and body cream fans. You either love a thick, rich, creamy body lotion and slather it on daily like it’s the elixir of youth. Or if you prefer a thinner, easily- and quickly-absorbed consistency, then you probably are a body lotion girly. I have, and will always be, a body-cream gal. I have pretty dry skin and like to prevent dryness and treat flakiness with a rich body cream.

The Kate McLeod Body Stone made its way on my radar years ago through my work as a beauty journalist. But I never really have the stone the time of day because I thought the concept was weird and I didn’t see how a stone would give me that rich, luxe, moisturized feeling that I am always craving.

Well, I’m here to tell you that this little stone shocked me with how moisturizing (and easy to use) it is. In my below Kate McLeod Body Stone review, I dive into why I think this moisturizer is worth a try (and the hefty price), and what you need to know before purchasing it.

In this section, I will talk about the various aspects of the stone. I’ll go over what I liked (and didn’t like) about this pick.

Texture

The texture of this formula was probably one of the most unexpected things about it. For whatever reason, I thought that the texture of this would be very waxy and difficult to rub or glide across my skin. Boy, was I wrong! When I picked this stone up with my hand, the warmth from my hand started to melt the stone down ever so slightly. As it got warm, the texture of the stone changed to something similar to a heavy cream. It almost felt like I was rubbing a creamy ointment on my skin, but in a good way.

The texture was a bit slippery, and I felt like I needed to wash my hands after I used this product on my body.

Moisturization

I was shooketh by how much this moisturized my whole body. So much so that I don’t think I recommend using this pick in the summer. It left my skin feeling very, very hydrated, and definitely a little bit greasy. I noticed that the greasiness went away after about an hour of wear. But I almost think this stone is too heavy to wear in the summertime. I did not find that this pick absorbed quickly, a claim that the brand has made.

But make no mistake about it, I will be using this down to a nub during the winter. This product is so perfect for super dry, winter skin that needs a lot of long-lasting hydration. It contains a plethora of hydrating and moisturizing oils including cocoa butter, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and coconut oil.  Like I said previously, it almost feels like a heavy body butter/lightweight ointment on your skin, so it’s pretty heavy. I would not recommend this to anyone who likes a dry oil or a watery body lotion, as this is the opposite of that.

Another thing to note is that, because it’s so thick, I avoided applying this product to my chest or back area, where I tend to break out every so often. If you suffer from severe body acne, I probably wouldn’t recommend this pick because it could be too heavy (and potentially cloggy) for your skin.

Ease of use

I think this lotion bar was pretty easy to use—easier than I thought it was going to be, actually. You first need to kind of rub it in your hands to get the stone warm and activate the cocoa butter concentrate. Then, you rub the stone on each area of your body about once or twice. After you’ve rubbed the stone, you use your hands to rub the product into your skin.

It was much easier than I thought it would be because the stone glided across my skin more smoothly than I had anticipated.

Packaging

I like that the packaging is plastic-free and that it comes in a nice reusable bamboo canister. You can also order the stones without the box if you’d prefer. The stone is wrapped in this cheesecloth wrap, so that you can wrap it up and store it back in the box when you’re done.

I also like that this is a waterless formula, meaning it isn’t diluted with water like most body lotions on the market. Not only does that actually save water, but it also might help save you money in the long run, as this stone will last significantly longer than any other diluted body lotion.

Finally, these stones come in full size and mini size. I love that it comes in mini size so that you can travel with it that much easier.

Smell

I have the Daily Stone, which is a “warm floral scent” that includes essential oils like rose, frankincense, and neroli. The scent is pretty subdued, but strong enough to lightly smell it on your skin. The scent definitely does not last throughout the day. And I like that the scent is subdued enough to be able to wear my regular perfumes on top of it without smelling like a crazy lady. There are a bunch of other scents from this line that I would love to try.

Price

Make no mistake about it—this body stone is pricey! That being said, I think it’s a pretty similar price to other high-end body lotions or creams you’d purchase at Sephora or another beauty retailer. According to the brand’s website, each body stone will last about 4-6 weeks if used daily. I think if you don’t end up using this every day, it will last a lot longer.

How To Use The Kate Mcleod Daily Stone

How To Use The Kate Mcleod Daily Stone

Dry off

You can use this stone whenever you want, but I think it’s best to use it right after the shower, once you’ve dried off with a towel and when your body is warm.

Grab your stone

Take the stone out of the reusable bamboo canister and place it in your hands.

Prep your stone

Cup the stone in between your palms. The body heat from your hands will help soften the stone and make it easier to glide across your skin.

Glide the stone

Glide the stone across your body. I would only do one pass per body area, rather than gliding the stone across the same areas multiple times. You will feel it melting across your skin.

Rub in the formula

You want to massage the oils into your skin after you’ve rubbed the stone on your body.

Wash your hands

I like to wash my hands after I’ve rubbed this into my skin.

Wait a minute

I would wait a minute or two before putting your clothes back on—this formula takes a while to sink in!
