It’s truly amazing how much the dairy alternatives market has blown up since I drastically cut down my dairy consumption for my skin five or six years ago. From dairy-free cheeses to creamers, to yogurts and milks, it’s become incredibly easy to avoid dairy consumption these days. After trying so many options, I’ve found the Cocojune Yogurts to be the best dairy free greek yogurt on the market.
So, here’s the thing: the Cocojune yogurts aren’t marketed as a “dairy free greek yogurt”. But to me, they taste more like greek yogurt than any other brand that’s including this marketing on their packaging. I went through years of eating runny, thin dairy free yogurts before discovering the beauty that is Cocojune.
Made with organic cultured coconuts, these little cups of goodness are not only packed with amazing ingredients. But they taste so creamy, thick, and delicious, too. Their Pure Coconut yogurt tastes the most similar to greek yogurt. In addition, it can easily be used to substitute any recipes that require a thick, creamy greek yogurt.
There are many dairy free greek yogurts that include probiotics. But I love how much Cocojune emphasizes their probiotic count. And I also know I’m getting great strains into my gut every time I eat it. Each flavor has the same strains of vegan live probiotic cultures including bifidobacterium anim. s. lactis bb-12, lactobacillus acidophilus la-5, lactobacillus paracasei crl 431, lactobacillus delbrueckii s. bulgaricus, and streptococcus thermophilus.
I also know that incorporating more probiotics into my diet really helps balance my digestion, my hormones, and my skin. And I love that I can eat Cocojune yogurt knowing I’m doing good for my gut, while enjoying the taste, too.
Yes, all of the Cocojune yogurts are very low in sugar, which is pretty difficult to find in other brands. For example, another coconut-based yogurt I reach for when I’m out of Cocojune is the Trader Joe’s Vanilla Cultured Coconut Milk Yogurt. The TJ’s yogurt contains 16 grams of total sugars. While the Cocojune Pure Coconut Yogurt contains only two grams.
Although Cocojune is the best dairy free greek yogurt with low amounts of sugar, it’s not as high in protein as regular Greek yogurt. Cocojune yogurts range between 1-2 grams of protein. While a Chobani greek yogurt has around 14 grams of protein, for example. Since they are so low in protein, I find other ways to add more protein into my breakfasts when eating Cocojune every day.
Each morning, I like to mix my Cocojune yogurt with a bunch of other ingredients to really make it a satisfying, full breakfast. To add more protein to the mix, I like to add about 1-2 tablespoons of hemp seeds (about three grams of protein per tablespoon), 1-2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed (about one gram of protein per tablespoon), and ¼ cup of sliced almonds (about five grams of protein). Additionally, I love to add blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries into the bowl for a more natural sweetness and flavor.
Honestly, I really love all the Cocojune yogurt flavors. The brand sells four flavors including Pure Coconut, Lemon Elderflower, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Vanilla Chamomile. I’d say my favorite flavor would be the Vanilla Chamomile. And my least favorite is the Strawberry Rhubarb (although I really think it is delicious). If you’re looking for a super low-sugar dairy free greek yogurt to act as a base to your breakfast bowl, or in need of a substitute for the tangy taste of a dairy greek yogurt, you’ll definitely want to opt for the Pure Coconut option.
I live on the East Coast and have found it relatively easy to find Cocojune yogurt at select grocery stores in my area. While you probably won’t find them at your local Trader Joe’s, you should be able to locate them at your nearest Whole Foods Market. If you’re having trouble finding the brand, type in your zip code into their Find Us page to figure out where you can buy.
One of the downsides of Cocojune yogurts is the price—each cup is pricier than most dairy free greek yogurts I’ve purchased. The price will really depend on where you live, but each cup is usually about $3 at my local Fairway Market in New York City. If it’s available, I’ll usually try and purchase the larger 16 oz containers of Cocojune yogurt to try and save a few extra bucks, rather than purchasing each 4 oz container individually.
There’s no doubt in my mind (or my tastebuds) that the Cocojune yogurts are the best dairy free greek yogurts on the market. I love using these yogurts in a variety of recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I’m so glad I discovered them over a year ago.
